Rehabilitation of the water distribution system of San Andres island

Rehabilitation of 27 km of network:

• Installation with pipe bursting: trenchless method of installation for 10.1 km of HDPE pipe ND90 to ND355 at the same location at the existing network,
• Traditional installation: method with trenches for the replacement of 16.9 km of HDPE pipe ND90 to ND355.

The network is completely located in dense and touristic areas, therefore WMI had to implement non traditional installation methods such as pipe bursting.

Investigation and zoning of the network:

• Evaluation of the network: installation of meters, modelling and calibration of the model,
• Definition of the sectors and installation of the valves for regulation and operation:
  • Installation and construction of 29 meters set and pressure logger in concrete chambers,
  • 210 gate valves.

A specialized team in modelling and hydraulic sectorization based in Bogota and Cali allowed a synergy and a continuous optimization of the construction of the new distribution network.

Consumers: Increase of the served population

• Installation of 3,200 new connections.

Services:

• Training of local working force for special works such as pipe bursting and HDPE welding,
• Training of the operators for the operation and maintenance of the new sectors and the network.
