At the end of 2021, the Cochabamba region in Bolivia will benefit from a new supply of drinking water, from the emblematic Misicuni Dam.
Since October 2019, WMI and its Bolivian and French partners are involved in a technical assistance contract funded by AFD and commissioned by the Ministry of the Environment and Water of Bolivia (MMAyA). We are supporting the various actors and beneficiaries of the project so that this new water supply is properly managed following the construction of the first water supply line serving the municipalities of Tiquipaya, Cercado and Sacaba.
Despite an unfavourable context, due first to political events and Covid-19 sanitary crisis, the technical assistance hasn’t been interrupted and is now entered in its final phase.
The activities carried out are varied, they cover both institutional and organizational aspects as well as more operational and technical aspects:
Support for the Misicuni Company:
- Identification of Technical Assistance needs, and preparation of a Quick Win Plan,
- Institutional and organizational assistance,
- Engineering studies and drafting of the Terms of Reference for the implementation of the automation of the water treatment plant and supply line #1.
Support for the Water Utility EMAPAS – in Sacaba

- Organizational and financial assistance,
- Definition of a strategy to reduce Non-Revenue Water,
- Design of the primary networks of Sacaba: Recovery of a pre-investment study, at the detailed pre-project level (ETDP), then drafting of the Terms of Reference.
Support for the formulation of a management model for Tiquipaya
