Currently, WMI is installing 5.2 km of new piping in Jamaica in extension to the Jamaican Water Supply Improvement Project (JWSIP). The JWSIP, which was awarded to VINCI Construction Grands Projets (71%) and WMI (29%), is designed to improve drinking-water supply and treatment in Kingston.
The pipes are being installed under the roadway in Stony Hill, a semi-urban district in Kingston. These ductile iron pipes are made in France and are very resistant. Their diameter ranges from 100 mm to 300 mm. During testing, pressure as high as 20 bars will be applied to certain points along the network of pipes.
The new piping will improve the effectiveness of the Stony Hill network, which receives its supply of drinking water from the Seaview treatment plant. The new pipes, along with WMI’s traditional services (upgrading water meters, normalizing user connections to the water-distribution network, systematic detection of leaks, hydraulic sectoring, and pressure control), are designed to provide consumers in Stony Hill with a steady supply of water and extend the network’s service area by more than 30%.
